The world may revolve around money but, it cannot buy everything. There are some things in one’s life that are more important than money itself. The most valuable things found on this capitalist world do not come with a price tag. Many people lose sight of that!
#1: TIME
We race against time. No matter how rich you are, you cannot get back lost time. It is given free for everyone and we only have 24 hours to maximize one day. Each passing second can never be replayed again. Despite all the medical advances and scientific efforts, there is no surefire way to extend one’s life significantly. Our time will pass. Hence, we must be grateful for everything that we are experiencing.
#2: PURPOSE
Your life’s purpose in life is beyond the pages written by Psychologists, Philosophers, and Scholars. You may perceive that “having all the money in the world” is the ultimate goal in life. However, money is just a tool to help you achieve your purpose. You can never get all the money in the world. If that drives you, your life may be meaningless once you get rich. Greediness can brew as you strive to make more money.
#3: LOVE
You can buy sex and intimacy. Some people have hired workers for the “boyfriend or girlfriend” experience. No matter how much you pay for intimacy, you can never buy true love. In many cases, money makes finding genuine love more difficult. It may bring suitors that are only after the depth of your pockets. The same goes for finding true friends. Having a hefty amount of money can bring out the worst in people.
#4: HEALTH
Health is one of the crucial things in life that money cannot buy. We all know that by now.
As Dalai Lama once said: ”What surprises me most is “man” sacrifices his/her health to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.” Maintaining good health throughout your life is ideal. You should not become powerful at the expense of your health. Paying medical bills and expenses are things money can buy, but it can never bring back your vibrant health.
#5: MANNERS
Manners are deeply ingrained in one’s character. Manners and class cannot be bought by money alone. You may seek the aide of professionals to help you shape your behaviors, but your attitude will remain the same if you are not willing to put the effort in.

Being on top of the world may make you feel that you do not gave to answer to anyone. Notice how some people act after winning the lottery. It is a great feeling to be respected by someone, and money cannot buy it.
The feeling of a satisfying meal in your stomach is a blissful experience, no doubt. For many people, warm and filling meals form a considerable part of our daily lives and can make our moods better than ever in just a few moments.
However, the same foods that taste so good can also leave behind some nasty bloating issues. They may cause our stomachs to swell with uncomfortable gas or pain that we can’t seem to get rid of. Let’s not forget the farts we release (or struggle to let out).
The subject of a famous fairy tale about this “magical pea”, beans are known to be a protein-rich food. Generally, beans are high in amino acids. They are also low in calories and contain high amounts of healthy fibre.
However, the fermentation process used to digest these beans in your system produces a considerable amount of gas that can trigger bloating. If you struggle with that, stay away from beans as much as possible. Or you may also consume tempeh and soybeans (edamame) that are easier to digest.
#2: Onions & Cabbages

Onions are a staple ingredient for many Asian cuisines, so this might shock those who are reading. If you’re the sort that suffers from acid reflux, you want to steer clear of onions. It’s famous for causing a bloated feeling in the upper belly. Go for chives or scallions instead.
As for vegetables in the cabbage family, they are usually called cruciferous vegetables. You want to avoid brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and broccoli if you don’t want to suffer the effects of gassy carbohydrates. Bok choy makes a suitable replacement!
#3: Sweeteners

Selected artificial sweeteners are hard to digest. This thus leads to bacteria in the intestine fermenting it, which in turn results in gas.
Folks who are looking for alternatives can try Stevia. Tamara Duker Freuman, a New York City-based registered dietitian, said that Stevia is not a fermentable carbohydrate. This means that gas is not produced as a byproduct if consumed.
This one might seem a bit hard at first. Who’s guilty of gulping down carbonated drinks regularly to counter the summer-forever weather in Singapore? I know I do. Even when we’re unwell, it seems like staying away from that chilled can of cola is impossible.
But you need to know that the substance here that cause our favourite beverages to bubble and stay fresh is carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a gas that can get trapped in your digestive system and cause bloating or cramping. Stick to flat drinks to avoid this bloating threat.
#5: Wheat / Gluten

For people who find themselves running to the bathroom after a good Subway sandwich, bread might be the unsuspecting culprit.
Wheat and the gluten it contains can be alright for some people, but for those with gluten sensitivity, intolerance, or celiac disease, ingesting gluten causes severe digestive issues, including gas, massive bloating, and other stomach discomforts.
Known as lactose intolerance, this type of dairy shut down means that you’re likely to experience bloating, gas, and pains when eating dairy products. If so, stick to dairy-free or lactose-free products to avoid this source of bloating.
Here are some alternatives:
Oat milk
Soy milk
Almond milk
Coconut milk
Lactose-free dairy milk
Hard cheese such as parmesan, cheddar, or swiss
#7: Beer

Beer is the unfortunate combination of several bloat-heavy ingredients on this list. It is a carbonated and fermented beverage made of carbonated water, fermented gluten, and fermented carbohydrates.
All three of these cause your stomach to bloat tremendously, something that might contribute to the idea of a beer belly. If you’re looking to avoid bloating, cut beer out of your diet and stick to plainer alcoholic alternatives such as liquors, red wines, or hard spirits.
Cutting out the abovementioned foods and drinks is the quickest way to enjoy a satisfying diet that makes you feel and look your best. Or you can gradually reduce them and introduce other alternatives mentioned in this article into your meals.

Hey folks, we’re finally one more day to Chinese New Year! Tomorrow (11 February) will be Chinese New Year’s Eve and usually a day where many of us will gather with our families for reunion dinner.
With the ongoing pandemic, Singapore is still treading very carefully in its safe reopening of the economy. Before we kick off the festivities with bak kwa, mini steamboat sessions, and pineapple tarts, here are six rules to note from the authorities.
#1: No festive events at work
We’re not referring to work-related events but Chinese New Year festive events. Businesses should avoid gathering for meals or “lohei”. Those who’ve been called back for such events can enlighten your management with this piece of news.
#2: Multiple table bookings not possible
A physical reunion with your extended family members at restaurants won’t be possible this year because multiple table bookings are not possible.
But there is an exception. Those from the same household can be allowed to gather, but there should be no inter-mingling across tables. Now’s also not the time to expand your social circle and meet up with multiple groups.
Recalling last year’s clusters and a spike in cases after the Chinese New Year Period, this move will prevent history from repeating itself.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) has also urged residents to visit a maximum of two other households a day. The public should instead use digital means to connect with their loved ones instead of physical visits.
#4: Use TraceTogether & keep face masks on
You don’t want to drain your mobile battery by running the TraceTogether app? We got you. How about bringing along your TraceTogether token before heading out? Oh right, regardless of whether you’re visiting others or welcoming guests at home, the rule applies.
Lest you think you’re only required to wear face masks when outdoors, please note that you have to do so even when you’re in someone else’s home. MOH has also requested the public to refrain from eating and/or drinking while walking around in public places.
Aligned with the current rules on wearing a mask when diners are not eating or drinking, the authorities have advised doing a quiet “lohei” without the usual verbalisation of auspicious phrases.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) shared last month that those marking the upcoming Chinese New Year are advised to offer e-hongbaos. This would help minimise queues for new bills and for individuals to do their part for the environment.
Remote gifting will also serve its purpose in virtual Chinese New Year gatherings. We guess it will sit very well with the younger peeps too! Here’s an “Ultimate Guide To e-Angbaos” if you need help getting started.
Final thoughts
Before celebrating Chinese New Year, please keep the abovementioned rules in mind. The news reported that there would be more enforcement checks at F&B establishments, shopping malls, and crowded public spaces during this period.
Break not the law, and you will be just fine. 新年快乐, 财源滚滚!
