5 Sneaky Tricks Advertisers Use To Get Your Money

Subliminal messages exist for a reason. You see, most of our decisions are made on an unconscious level. This means that our behaviors are influenced by our wishes, interests, and motivations.

Say that you have been scrolling freely thru your Instagram feed and you saw a fast food ad. Days later, you caught yourself craving for a delicious cheeseburger.

Hidden persuasions are the driving force behind advertising. And, these persuasions happen more often than you think!

On that note, here are 5 Sneaky Tricks Advertisers Use To Get Your Money:

ILLUSION OF SCARCITY

Why are people so attracted to items that are limited edition? For starters, scarcity is usually linked to luxurious products. Talk about the limited supply of Yeezys and diamonds!

Scarcity also suggests that people want a product so bad that its supply depleted. I can vividly recall the time I visited a blogshop and saw this long black dress. At the bottom it displayed: “only one piece left”. I really wanted to purchase this dress, but I was contemplating on whether I need another black dress or not. Buying mode kicked in when the fear of missing out (#FOMO) emerged. I wanted to secure the last item left! This goes to show that scarcity technique works so well because it entails that our freedom of choice can be gone is a snap!

POWER OF SOCIAL PROOF

Word of mouth spreads like wildfire! When you want to purchase new products or try new services, you approach others for recommendation. We go to recommended doctors for health advise and to highly-raved hairstylists for a new ‘do. You are more likely to subscribe to something that has gotten a stamp of approval from a person you admire. So much for individuality, huh?

When my significant other and I go on a date, we usually check out food review websites such as burpple.com and hungrygowhere.com. We tend to eat at places with higher reviews. This illustrates the power of social proofing. According to social proofing, we are more likely to buy something that the majority approves. This is why modern advertisers turn to Facebook and Instagram to get as much “likes” as possible!

ART OF REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY

Let’s face it! There is a reason why some people hide from sales representatives who follow them around. Nobody likes to be told on what to do, especially when they are about to make a purchase. This is where the Art of Reverse Psychology comes in handy.

Advertisers understand that you do not like to be blatantly persuaded. Which is why they try to convince you that you have a choice in the matter. They may say something along the lines of “you are free to try Brand X but…”. Their transparency can hook you into buying the product.

INFLUENCE OF THE DECOY EFFECT

Have you ever experienced shopping around for appliances and seeing the usual price as well as the discounted prices? Well, the discounted price sure is attractive! It makes me wonder how long has the usual price been there? Is the discounted price really a steal?

Dan Ariely, an Ivy-league professor of Psychology and Behavioral economics, did a study on the different price options. As it turns out, a company may include an additional price option just to make you think that you are getting a good deal.

His study included three magazine subscriptions: an online subscription for $59, a print subscription for $125, and a print-and-online subscription for $125. When Ariely offered the three options to the participants, most of them picked the combo option as it seemed like the best deal. However, things changed when only the print or online options remained. Most of them sticked to the cheapest option – the $59 online subscription.

RICHNESS OF ANECDOTES

Customer testimonials are powerful not only because of social proofing, but also because of the richness of anecdotes. Research suggests that stories and individual examples stick to our brains better than statistics. This make sense as stories transport us to a place where we are most likely to believe in something.

Simply watch this heartwarming video by a Thai Insurance company:

If you are more likely to be persuaded by emotional advertisements or stories, you may want to stay vigilant for your budget’s sake!

3 Key Digital Marketing Tips to Drive Sales

Every business needs an effective marketing strategy to meet sales objectives. As we are progressing tremendously into the technological world, it is imperative that businesses leverage the digital realm to speak to their target markets in more effective ways. Here are three useful digital marketing tips you should consider as part of your overall sales strategy.

Build an SEO-friendly website

Having an online presence is the basic necessity to thrive in the digital world. With 4.92 million internet users in Singapore at a penetration rate of 84%*, tapping on this medium to market your business is essential. You can first start off with a fully-optimised website that is search engine friendly. While Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is crucial for search engines to rank your website on the first page, you must also know how to target your audience online using SEO.

  1. Keywords

Before beginning any SEO optimisation strategy, you must know what keywords or phrases you want to rank on search engines. These words or phrases are what your potential customers will key into the search box when they are looking for a product or service that you also offer. There are many ways you can do keyword research. For instance, you can find out what generic words or phrases best describes your brand and also look up those used by your competitors to see where you are lacking in. There are several powerful keyword planning tools you can find online to perform this step.

Do note the type of customers you want to attract. If you are looking to drive sales to your e-commerce site such as Shopify, your potential customers are more likely searching for a product or service with a buying intent and thus, your keywords and phrases should be more product and service-focused. Those seeking information often use different short and long-tail keywords that are topical. While the former appears to be a more direct way to drive sales, the latter is also an important digital marketing strategy to tap on as it can persuade potential customers to visit your website to learn more about your brand before making a conversion.

  1. On-page SEO

Once you have decided on your keywords and phrases, it is time to work on your on-page SEO. These include updating your metadata by giving descriptive page titles and unique meta descriptions for each web page. Your URLs must also be easy to read, and your site must be accompanied by a clean web structure that is easy to navigate.

Images play a big role in search engine optimisation too. You can boost image SEO by updating your alt texts, image descriptions and titles with relevant keywords that relate to the nature of the image, the text it is accompanied by and the webpage it is displayed on.

  1. Content

One other crucial element of on-page SEO that is significant in digital marketing includes optimising your website content that can drive sales. While it is necessary to include keywords in your optimised content, you must remember that your content is not only meant to convert prospects but also serves as a resource for others to share. This means that you can reach new audiences that will increase your website traffic and thus increase the chance for you to convert a lead to a customer. There are different types of content you can include – blogs, videos, guest posts, product reviews and guides, among others.

Establish a powerful social media presence

Once you have a well-optimised website, you can now take advantage of social media to further enhance your online presence and be a level higher in your digital marketing sales strategy. There are 4.6 million active social media users in Singapore, with 4.2 million accessing the application via their mobile phones. Apart from creating paid advertisements on these platforms, you can create engaging organic content that your customers want to read, and drive engagement through likes, comments and shares. This allows you to generate positive brand mentions when your followers consistently interact with your brand in ways that meet your objectives. It is also an excellent opportunity to incorporate weblinks into posts and encourage your followers to click on them to reach your site.

All in all, boosting your products and services on social media not only helps to increase traffic to your website (that could potentially lead to conversions), but it also helps to build a base of loyal brand followers who are willing to share your content and thus increase your audience reach.

More prospects, more opportunities for a conversion!

Attractive Google My Business Profile

If you are running a business with a single store or several franchises across the country, setting up your Google My Business (GMB) profile will be incredibly helpful. An important SEO ranking signal, GMB allows you to manage your presence on Google Maps where you can provide all relevant details of your business such as the address, opening hours, telephone number and email, reviews as well as a link back to your website. Moreover, you can also give prospective customers an idea of what your business looks like by incorporating a 360 virtual tour. This allows them to have fun while interacting with your content and be prompted to find out more about your business by navigating to your website through your GMB profile. This drives organic visitors to your site who have the potential to generate conversions.

There is never a direct way to drive sales when it comes to digital marketing. Often, customers may not be as receptive to promotional content and thus it is useful to find other meaningful ways to engage them before they are more confident to make the purchase.

Highest Paying Affiliate Marketing Programs to Join

The digital age has indeed paved the way for many people who would like to venture into different types of business, including those involving more innovative ways to earn online. Thanks to the internet, it is now made more accessible to find the right tools, platforms, plus a legit group of experts that can help ensure that your business will thrive or flourish.

Affiliate Marketing (plus hard-work, of course) is a sure-fire way to earn money online. But how does it guarantee your online business’ success? All the information that follows will yield the best highest paying affiliate marketing programs out there for you. Learn more about them on journalreview.org, and you’ll be amazed by the endless possibilities of making your next online business a hit.

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate Marketing is one of the most in-demand ways to make your online business succeed. But how do you go about it? Affiliate Marketing happens almost every day—when you’re online shopping or making your purchases on the web or your phone, clicking through links and whatnot. This process is what link owners do to promote a specific product or brand online and get something like a portion of the payment in exchange—say, through a commission.  Referrals are another example that involves discounts on purchases by promoting the company or brand to other customers—talk about a ‘win-win’ situation.

Here are some of the highest paying affiliate marketing programs:

  • Amazon Associates

The Amazon Associates program allows its partners to sell whatever Amazon sells, and in return, partners will earn a sales commission. This platform is extremely potent in terms of sales, because of its massive product catalog and top-of-the-line technical support. However, stiff competition can make it difficult for sites that are not yet optimized.

For you to be successful with Amazon Affiliates, you must have a highly centralized niche site. However, secondary sales will also be viable. This program also offers commissions for links that made it through to Amazon, even if the linked product was not purchased. Although this program provides large commissions, the downside to this program will be its performance-based structure—you will have quotas to meet for you to reach the highest commission tiers.

  • eBay Partner Network

Most people are under the impression that eBay is only an auction site, where sellers post items for sale for buyers to bid, leaving no room for affiliate marketing. However, eBay found a solution to incorporate affiliate marketers into its system.  Certain product sales are now made on the storefront rather than the traditional auction basis; these storefront sales can be used to earn affiliate commissions.

Here are two essential benefits to this partner network program:

  1. eBay commission rates are relatively high when compared to competitors’ affiliate programs.
  2. eBay offers a double-the-commission bonus for first-time user referrals.
  • Rakuten Affiliates

Previously known as Buy.com, Rakuten is growing leaps and bounds. Rakuten has been ranked amongst the top e-commerce companies around the world. This platform is also known for their support and legitimacy when it comes to affiliate networks.

Rakuten’s platform is packed with excellent platform options and tools that you can utilize to easily and quickly optimize your website. Additionally, like the platforms mentioned above, Rakuten allows its partners to have access to its massive product catalogs.

  • iTunes Affiliates

iTunes is an excellent media platform to make use of as an affiliate, mainly because of its support from Apple. If you’re into selling music, movies, apps, and digital products; then you’ll have your niche through iTunes.

Apple offers commission on both in-app purchases and apps. For example, linking to Clash of Clans can earn you commission from sales made from in-app purchases. This program is unique for its commissions coming from in-app purchases on free apps.

  • Peerfly

Peerfly has one of the highest commission offers in the CPA network, and if you’re on the lookout for high-value individual sales; then Peerfly is the way to go. However, if you’re new to affiliate marketing with no history of notable traffic, this platform may not be for you.

That being said, Peerfly is more of an exclusive platform for affiliate marketing superstars. However, If you’re lucky enough to get in, Peerfly can be an excellent platform for you to make a living. But always remember to follow their rules and keep away from black hat techniques.

Closing thoughts

Affiliate marketing, like all other marketing strategies, will need hard-work and perseverance—it’s definitely not a get rich quick scheme. However, having the right approach and high-quality content can easily make you a few thousand dollars per month from affiliate marketing alone.
