Fried chicken-flavoured Oreos are now a thing. KFC and Oreo have teamed up in China to put a savoury twist on the familiar chocolate sandwich cookie, with a filling inspired by KFC’s Original Recipe chicken.
And the collaboration goes both ways. While Oreo has borrowed KFC’s chicken flavour for its cookies, KFC has taken Oreo into its kitchen to create a chicken burger with black cookie-inspired buns and Oreo-covered mashed potatoes.
Launched in China, the crossover gives fans of both brands two very different ways to explore the sweet-and-savoury combination.
Chocolate cookies meet KFC’s signature seasoning
Launched in China on 31 July 2026, the limited edition cookies pair Oreo’s chocolate wafers with an Original Recipe-inspired crème flavoured with herbs and spices. Think the seasoning associated with KFC’s fried chicken, worked into an Oreo filling.
That sweet-and-savoury pairing is the big draw. Chocolate on the outside, a chicken seasoning-inspired centre inside: it is the sort of snack that could turn a casual taste test with friends into a lively debate.
The cookies also get a makeover. Alongside the familiar Oreo branding, the wafers feature KFC branding, while the packaging adopts KFC’s recognisable red-and-white colours.
There’s a Retro Popcorn flavour too
The release includes Retro Popcorn Oreos, giving fans a second flavour to explore. According to launch coverage, the cookies were offered individually and in a gift pack containing both flavours.
For anyone curious about the collaboration but hesitant about chicken-flavoured crème, the popcorn version offers another way to join the taste test. Having both on hand could make for a fun snack-sharing session — and a chance to decide which combination works better.
KFC also created an Oreo chicken burger
The crossover continued with the Oreo Original Recipe Chicken Burger, launched at KFC in China on 28 August 2026.
It combines a breaded chicken thigh fillet and lettuce with black Oreo-flavoured buns stamped with a cookie design. Inside is a layer of mashed potatoes coated in crushed Oreo pieces. The burger was reported as a limited time China release.
The cookie-inspired bun gives the burger an unmistakable Oreo identity, while the filling takes the experiment further. Chocolate cookie crumbs, mashed potatoes and fried chicken in one bite? That is quite a departure from the usual chicken burger order.
Between the two creations, the collaboration poses a fun question: would you rather try an Oreo that tastes like KFC, or a KFC burger with an Oreo twist?
