Instant Self-Heating Stinky Tofu (臭豆腐) Now Available For $2.60

Stinky tofu is one of the most popular snack foods in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. With travel restrictions in place, there are still ways where you can still satisfy your cravings for some of the favourite local foods.

Meet the Zheng Yi Dao 臭臭锅, a self-heating instant stinky tofu, that is now available in Singapore. Self-heating meals are not new and are quite popular in China. Using a similar concept, you can basically heat up everything from noodles and vermicelli to having a ready-to-eat hotpot.

A pack of the stinky tofu is available at Chinese supermarket chain, Scarlett Supermarket 思家客国货超市, at $2.60 per tub.

The cooking instructions are similar to self-heating hotpots where you cook the food over water boiled using a heating pad.

When you opened the packaging, you can see that there are many sachets that contains the seasonings, sauces and pickles. They even provide a packet of water, a pair of chopsticks and serviette for your convenience. How thoughtful!

With hot steam coming out, you can rest assured that your food will be well-heated for consumption. Make sure you keep it covered for at least 12 minutes.

Here’s what it looks like after cooking it:

There are about 15 to 16 pieces of tofu in each pack, which is decent for the price. Mix well and you are ready to tuck in! Yum.
