S’pore Ranked 5th in Least Corrupt Nations, Denmark Leads the Way

Singapore has maintained its position as the fifth least corrupt country globally, as per the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index.

Since its inception in 1995, Singapore has been the sole Asian country consistently placed in the top 10. Over the years, it has ranked third in 2018 and 2020, fourth in 2019 and 2021, and currently sits at fifth in 2022 and 2023.

The index evaluates and compares countries based on their perceived levels of corruption in the public sector, utilizing a scale ranging from 0 (i.e., very corrupt) to 100 (i.e., very clean). Various aspects of public sector corruption, including bribery, misuse of public funds, and favoritism in civil service appointments, are taken into consideration.

Here’s a breakdown of the top 10 least corrupt countries in the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index 2023:

1. Denmark (90)
2. Finland (87)
3. New Zealand (85)
4. Norway (84)
5. Singapore (83)
6. Sweden (82)
6. Switzerland (82)
8. Netherlands (79)
9. Germany (78)
9. Luxembourg (78)

The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) revealed that expert opinions and business surveys contribute to the data collection process. The CPIB emphasized that this data stems from 13 external sources. Interestingly, the global average score stands at 43, with more than two-thirds of countries scoring below 50.

Singapore maintained its score of 83 in 2023, consistent with the previous year. The CPIB assured the public that corruption in Singapore remains well-managed, with the number of public sector corruption cases consistently low. Public Perception Surveys conducted regularly by the CPIB indicate a high level of public confidence in Singapore’s efforts to combat corruption.

“Singapore’s reputation as one of the least corrupt countries in the world is hard-earned,” according to CPIB.

In addition to the Transparency International index, Singapore excels in other corruption-related rankings. For instance, in the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index 2023, Singapore ranks third globally for the absence of corruption, making it the leading Asian nation among 142 countries.

The CPIB highlights its commitment to working collaboratively with the community to maintain the integrity of Singapore’s governance. Moreover, the CPIB conducts its own Public Perception Surveys, further demonstrating the public’s strong confidence in Singapore’s anti-corruption endeavors.

Capture IG-Worthy Moments at the Claude Monet-Inspired Exhibition in Gardens by the Bay This July

In my quest for exciting activities and hidden gems within the Red Dot, a captivating advertisement caught my eye – “Impressions of Monet: The Garden” at Gardens by the Bay.

Mark your calendars because, from July 12, 2024, this exhibition promises to transport you into the enchanting world of Claude Monet, the renowned French painter.

BACKGROUND OF THE EXHIBITION

Enter the realm of Claude Monet (1840-1926), a visionary who not only pioneered but passionately championed the Impressionist style. Originating in France in the 1860s, Impressionism is a painting movement that focuses on capturing the visual essence of a moment, emphasizing the play of light and color.

Prepare for a truly immersive experience as a digital presentation breathes life into the timeless masterpieces of Claude Monet. Complementing this, a delightful floral arrangement painstakingly recreates the landscapes that fueled Monet’s creativity in Giverny, France.

Titled “Impressions of Monet,” the exhibit unfolds in two captivating zones: The Garden and The Experience. Step into The Garden at the Flower Dome, where you’ll be welcomed by scenes reminiscent of Monet’s own Giverny garden in France.

Transition to The Experience, where several of Monet’s masterpieces come alive on the walls and ceiling. Amidst a lively symphony of strobe lights and tunes, you’re invited to roam freely, becoming part of the living canvas.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Revel in the recreation of Monet’s iconic pink house and its garden, now the second most visited tourist attraction in Normandy, France. Explore the adjacent Clos Normand garden and the serene Water Garden, both integral to Monet’s later works. Afterwards, immerse yourself in the beauty of hydrangeas, weeping willows, digitalis, daisies, delphiniums, and geraniums – all echoing the flora of Monet’s original gardens.

What’s more? Feast your eyes on the green Japanese bridge and water lilies, subjects immortalized in Monet’s renowned Water Lilies series.

This multi-sensory adventure is a deep dive into the heart of French Impressionism, offering glimpses of 19th-century Europe through the eyes of Monet and his fellow Impressionist painters.

Get lost in the grandeur of famous, inspirational images set to a powerful classical score. Watch as paintings are projected at an enormous scale, illuminating the bold brushstrokes of Monet, Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, and many other luminaries.

Don’t miss out on this extraordinary exhibition running from July 12 to September 15, 2024, from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Admission ticket prices start at S$8 for Singapore residents. Prepare to embark on a journey into the captivating world of Monet’s artistry – an experience that promises to linger in your heart and Instagram feed alike!
