Jetstar Asia to Cease Operations by July 31

For many Singaporeans, Jetstar Asia was more than an airline. It was a trusted escape, a weekend essential, and a familiar face in the skies.

Known for its budget-friendly fares and reliable service, Jetstar Asia quietly embedded itself into the routines and memories of countless travelers, especially those heading to nearby favorites like Thailand, the Philippines, and Japan.

TWO-DECADE JOURNEY COMES TO AN END

Jetstar Asia, the Singapore-based budget airline that has flown millions since its first in December 2004, has announced it will permanently cease operations on July 31, 2025. The announcement was made on June 11 through the airline’s social media channels, marking the end of a 21-year journey.

Founded as a joint venture with Qantas and Singapore’s Westbrook Investments, Jetstar Asia served 16 destinations across Asia and Australia with its fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft. It operated as an affordable link across borders, connecting Singapore with cities in Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Sri Lanka, Japan, and more.

THE IMPACT OF RISING OPERATIONAL COSTS

The airline cited rising operational costs, mounting competition, and regional overcapacity as reasons behind the difficult decision. In a statement, Jetstar Asia said:

“Despite our best efforts to offset these rising costs, they are expected to continue into the foreseeable future, putting unsustainable pressure on our ability to offer low fares.”

Jetstar Asia is projected to post an A$35 million (S$29 million) underlying EBIT loss this financial year, which is a clear signal that the financial strain had become too great to bear.

MORE THAN 500 EMPLOYEES AFFECTED

More than 500 employees will be affected by the shutdown. The airline has promised redundancy packages that include four weeks’ pay for every year of service, bonuses for the current financial year, and a “thank you” payment.

Jetstar Asia is also offering ongoing staff travel benefits for a period equal to each employee’s tenure, along with job placement support. Its parent group, Qantas, stated that it is actively working to find job opportunities across the group and with other airlines in the region.

WHAT PASSENGERS NEED TO KNOW

Customers booked on flights after July 31 will be offered full refunds or alternative arrangements where possible. Affected passengers can visit the airline’s “Manage Booking” portal to submit refund requests.

Jetstar Asia has also pledged to convert unused travel vouchers into monetary refunds. Then, Club Jetstar members will receive more information by August.

Flights will operate on a progressively reduced schedule until the final day of service.

MARKING AN END OF AN ERA

Jetstar Asia’s closure affects only its operations. Thus, Jetstar Airways (JQ) from Australia and Jetstar Japan (GK) will continue its flights. Routes between Australia and Asia, including Singapore, remain active under the broader Jetstar brand.

For frequent travelers and aviation enthusiasts, Jetstar Asia’s exit marks the end of an era. It was part of first solo trips, last-minute getaways, and long-awaited reunions. As its bright orange tailfin vanishes from Changi’s tarmac, it leaves behind not just empty gates but unforgettable memories.

Attract Good Fortune with These Feng Shui Tips

Feng Shui isn’t just ancient wisdom tucked away in dusty scrolls. It’s a living, breathing philosophy that continues to shape the way we build, decorate, and live in our spaces. Rooted in Chinese tradition, Feng Shui is all about working with the flow of natural energy, or chi, to create balance and invite prosperity into our lives.

Look closely at some of Singapore’s most iconic spots and you’ll notice these principles at play. Think of the open palm facade in Suntec City or the thoughtful resemblance of the number “9” at Marina Barrage. These places weren’t just designed to look good as they were created to feel good too.

If you’re ready to bring that same kind of thoughtful energy into your own home, use these tips to boost your well-being and invite abundance into every room.

#1: CREATE YOUR WEALTH CORNER

Every home has a wealth corner, and it’s easier to find than you might think. Stand at your front door facing inside. The far-left corner of your home is traditionally considered the wealth sector.

To activate it, add symbols of abundance like a flourishing plant, a bowl of coins, or accents in rich purples and greens. Keep this area clean, well-lit, and clutter-free. Let it reflect the kind of financial luck you’re ready to welcome.

#2: KNOW YOUR GOOD & BAD SECTORS

Just like the seasons, the energy in your home shifts from year to year. Feng Shui takes cues from the positions of flying stars, which affect different sectors of your space each lunar year. A room that once brought prosperity might need a little extra care now.

Check in with a Feng Shui calendar or expert to understand which areas of your home are currently considered lucky, and which ones could use a gentle energy cleanse.

#3: MAKE YOUR ENTRANCE WELCOMING

Your front door is where all energy enters your home. That means it’s more than just a door as it’s the gateway to your life’s flow. Keep it open and welcoming.

Clear out any shoes, bags, or clutter that might block the way. Add a cheerful doormat, a touch of greenery, and make sure the space feels bright and alive.

#4: CELEBRATE THE KITCHEN

In Feng Shui, the kitchen represents nourishment, both physical and financial. An organized kitchen supports wellness and prosperity.

Remove the clutter in the counters and display fresh fruits or colorful vegetables. Make it a space where abundance feels natural and everyday life feels a little more vibrant.

#5: USE MIRRORS TO REFLECT POSITIVITY

Mirrors aren’t just decorative as they’re energetic amplifiers. When placed thoughtfully, they can bounce light, expand space, and double the energy of whatever they reflect. Position mirrors to highlight something beautiful, like a garden view or a favorite piece of art.

Avoid placing them directly opposite the front door or beside the bed, as this can disturb your rest or send energy right back out of the house.

#6: LET FURNITURE SUPPORT YOU

Ever feel unsettled with your back to the door? That’s your instincts speaking. Feng Shui encourages placing key furniture (e.g., bed, desk, or sofa) in what’s called the commanding position.

You should be able to see the entrance to the room without being directly in line with it. This gives you a subtle but powerful sense of control and stability, helping you feel safe, focused, and more at ease in your space.

#7: FIND BEAUTY IN BALANCE

One of the biggest misconceptions about Feng Shui is that it’s about strict rules or perfect symmetry. In reality, it’s about balance. A few well-placed cushions can feel cozy, but too many can overwhelm a space. Choose decorations that makes sense visually and emotionally. When your surroundings feel balanced, your life starts to feel that way too.

Feng Shui invites you to tune in to the energy around you. When you create a space that flows well and feels good, you are not just decorating; you are designing a lifestyle that welcomes luck, peace, and possibility.
