For the second year running, Yishun Park Hawker Centre will be organizing its well-received $1 Carnival with 26 of its veteran and young hawkers. The carnival will take place on 29 June, 2019, from 11am to 5pm.
Other than being treated to generous sampling portions of signature dishes from participating hawkers at $1 each, patrons can also make purchase-with-purchase* of top species durians like Mao Shan Wang, Red Prawns and D24 at $1each; 1000kg of durians up for grabs.
Themed “Hawker Heroes”, the carnival hopes to celebrate the hawkers at Yishun Park Hawker Centre and let customers into the meaningful stories of these humble heroes. Managing Director and Co-Founder of Timbre Group, Mr Edward Chia on this year’s theme, “We refer to our stall holders as hawker heroes. And they really are heroes to
us. We respect them for toiling over hot stoves and working long hours, all in the name of serving consistently good and affordable food.”
Nothing like good ol’ local, multi-cultural dishes to tickle the taste buds and rekindle that sense of nostalgia. Signature hawker dishes such as Chicken Rice, Prawn Noodles, Roti Prata, as well as Potato Epok Epok and more will be featured at the carnival. For comforting hawker fares that stood through times, you cannot miss JJ Prawn Noodle’s rich and complex broth, handmade bouncy fishballs by Da San Yuan and the silky smooth Pork Congee from Li Fang Congee.
If one is into local fares re-interpreted, several young hawkerpreneurs will surprise you with their takes on hawker delights! Sink your teeth into the umami Mentaiko Omelet Rice from Seafood Pirates, dig into Hakka Meatball Rice Bowl by Ah Lock Tofu and save some space for Yap’s Noodle’s Curry Chee Cheong Fun.
Other must-haves at the carnival include the flavourful Lala White Bee Hoon from XLX Modern Tze Char, spicily addictive Sino-Indo Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang by Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang and a quarter of Smokin’ Joe’s Wagyu Beef Burger for just $1!
Each customer can purchase up to 2 portions of the $1 food item each time they join the queue of a participating stall.
As part of the carnival, Yishun Park Hawker Centre is also offering 1000kg of durians (Mao Shan Wang, D13, D24 and Red Prawn) at just $1 each.
The number of durians a customer may redeem is based on the number of $1 food/drinks item on the receipt from the participating hawker stalls. Customers simply need to present the receipt(s) at the 3 designated durian stalls to purchase durians at just $1 each. There will also be a workshop at the event plaza at 3pm where customers
can learn from durian experts on how to choose a good durian.
Expect buzz and laughter from this family-friendly carnival as both adults and kids have fun at different pockets of spaces within the hawker centre. Activities such as kids craft, face painting, $1 bouncy castle and $1 Weekend Bazaar are sure to keep everyone entertained.
A highlight activity this year sees an actual hawker stall transformed into a photobooth where customers can dress up as a hawker and have a photo opportunity.
Hoping to extend this carnival to residents staying at close by districts; complimentary shuttle bus services will also be available from 10.45am to 5pm with pick-ups and drop-offs at Sembawang, Yishun and Khatib MRT stations.
Yishun Park Hawker Centre is a self-tray returning hawker centre and to encourage the usage and returning of the trays at the carnival, $1000 worth of Tuck Shop app credits will be given away to patrons through a lucky draw at the tray-return stations
